Clube Praia da
Oura Algarve, Portugal Located 30 km from Faro airport on the
Algarve's famous Golden Beach, near the popular resort of Albufeira, Clube
Praia da Oura commands a beautiful cliff-top position overlooking the Atlantic
Ocean. The resort was originally built around a 600-year-old olive tree and has
developed into one of the largest and most impressive resort complexes in
Europe.
Originally a picturesque fishing town, its magnetic attraction
to visitors has meant that, over the years, Albufeira has expanded to become
the Algarve's leading holiday resort. The old town still preserves its quaint
charm, with its many whitewashed buildings, including a number of Moorish
arches and three small churches. Albufeira has all the ingredients for the
ideal family holiday, including a magnificent backdrop of huge sandstone cliffs
rising above an enormous beach lined with colourful fishing boats and gently
sloping sands. From almost anywhere, the view of the old town rising up the
slope, perched on the edge of the ocean, is an unforgettable sight. A tunnel
links the centre of the town to the main beach and if you are there when the
tractors haul the day's catch ashore, you could witness some fascinating
examples of marine life. But if you prefer to get away from the crowds, all you
have to do is drive further along the coast in either direction, where you'll
find plenty of quieter sandy beaches, some with dramatic rock formations.
